Paul Cluver Close Encounter
The second of three Rieslings made on the Paul Cluver farm. It is so named because it came very close to being uprooted when Riesling was less well recognised in the Cape. The farm manager also had a close encounter in the vineyard when an unexpected local train came through the vineyard one day and almost bisected both him and his tractor. Thankfully, Christian, the tractor, and most importantly, the vineyard all survived! This is a special selection from a high level vineyard. The resulting wine has wonderful purity of fruit, minerality, complexity and the very pleasant advantage of a lower alcohol content – 9.5%. Great to drink alone, with fish, shellfish and particularly with oriental or spicy dishes. Such a special wine. Ageing elegantly and lots of life for quite some time to come.
